was in today to look at the street hockey going on. Very exciting! Lots of players, viewers and eqyipment... never thought I would like to watch hockey, but the guys are sooooo nice and chattie ♥

September Days coming to a End

I've been walking and enjoying the September days this last week. The leaves are beginning to turn from green to gold & red and so, apparently is this photogenic Dragon-Fly! I've never seen a red one before. I've lost another 10 plus pounds of weight, too, so have been shopping for autumn clothing, looking mostly in the second hand stores in my home Town. I'm not buying anything brand new as I'm hoping to be 30 lbs lighter by Christmas, dropping to my ideal weight of 2001!

Yarmouth County Musuem Exhibit Event~ Up-dated~ AUCTION!

On July 13th the Yarmouth County Museum will open its Light House exhibit on Collins Street in the Gallery room. I have written a short story in collaboration with David Cain, a local artist. Hope locals can and view the wonderful painting he had done of the Bunker's Island Bug Light! There will be a auction of paintings on September 28 at 1pm. Call for more info 902-742-5539.

A Bug Light Memory

A soft breeze blows in from the south as I walk the long grassy path to my old childhood home-stead, looking at the cement pillars and concrete pads in the grass, reminders of Grand-father’s tales, quarantine hospitals, unmarked graves and stormy skies.

Reaching the end of land at the tip of Ram’s Horn, I can still see Mother standing on tip-toes to hang the laundry. Father walks towards the light tower door. Ascending the steps, he checks the beacon, as he does every day.

My brother’s and I would gather our buckets to search the beach just beyond for lobsters and periwinkles hidden in the sea weed of low tide. I see my oldest sister standing in the door way of the house holding the baby for Mother. She calls after us, reminding us to be back by supper and high tide. 

A long call of the fog horn echoes out from the light house as Father sounds it. We look to the mouth of the harbor, just to be sure the fog mist isn’t gathering there. We would need our long shirts on if it did. A happy time it was.

I feel the warmth of the sun quietly as I listen to the sea telling me her stories. Fishing boats move out against the current on their way to the fishing grounds. Yacht’s pass with excited sounds of adventure they pass to the winds. I look to a new beacon as she stands alone in the tides.

As time passes my eyes turn to the East to see the evening star rise. The light begins to illuminate as earth turns day to night. Realizing the signal comes from above to the light; I also turn and begin the walk back home.

September Organic Garden Up-date

 

I've been picking off my fresh tomatoes every day for a week or so and now have to try and can as the weather has ripened them up fast! I stew them and preserve in bottles for cooking later on this fall/winter. Its simply to do.

1. Peel the tomatoes by soaking them in boiling water for one minute. Gently pull away the skin.


2. Place tomatoes in a large pot. Turn on heat to medium.


3. Cover and boil gently for 15 minutes, or until tomatoes are tender. Place in clean canning jars while still hot and top with mason lids. Cool befor placing in cup-board. Their yummy!
 
 



 
 
I few photo's of my garden below. Among the tomato plants and yellow string beans, you will find sorrel and st john's wort. Not to mention evening primrose. I planted some winter harvest veggies, also, parsnip, carrot and beets. My peas have been picked & eaten weeks ago, leaving a spot for new onion bulbs to be planted for winter greens. I'm hoping my swiss chard will grow till January like last winter. I have taken in a few herbs for my window but my sage and lemon balm will have to stay out as it will die anyway in the winter months. Dandelion greens usually turn up in March with burdock root marked by the green house door...just in case I want to try it! My calendula flowers will bloom till well after the first frost and bloom early spring, making every thing sing with orange & yellow for the bees. ...hoping you enjoy!
 


 



 

 


 
 
 
 
 

Evening Primrose

 

 

I've spent the last few days sense the storm on Friday picking tomatoes, airing winter garments for use in my sun-porch and picking evening primrose for my tincture. The blossoms have been ready sense August but with

 the job on the farm time has flown by.

I pick the blossoms, pulling back the stem to reveal the pedicel. When placed on the tip of your tongue, the nectar is honey sweet. You can feel the healing sap of the flower travel through your body in a orgasm of electric vibe. its nice ... : )
I love this tinture in the winter when the blabs take hold. Its a burst of sun-shine ☼

How to Find Your Holy Grail

1~Recognize your deep need to find the Holy Grail. Only when your desire to find the grail is all-consuming will you be truly prepared to set off on your search. If you can't tell whether you would rather watch TV or search for the Holy Grail, you probably aren't prepared to start your search.

2~Establish yourself as a hero or heroine. In all traditional Holy Grail searches, only a true hero can actually recognize and keep the Holy Grail at the end of a search. In today's gender-equal culture, a heroine can search for the Holy Grail as well. Either way, you must be sure that you are spiritually and mentally mature before you can expect to find the Holy Grail.

3~Determine what you think the Holy Grail actually is. Because nobody has ever seen the Holy Grail, this step could be somewhat difficult. According to Christian tradition, the Holy Grail is a cup or chalice Jesus used at the Last Supper. It may not be a cup at all...What do you use to represent it? There has always been some confusion about the shape of the actual vessel. In recent years, the term "holy grail" has been used metaphorically to apply to all elusive dreams. Even if you have a burning desire to search for the Holy Grail, you need to decide what it actually is before you begin searching for it.
4~Figure out whether anyone can serve as your spiritual guide. A quest of this nature could involve some supernatural elements, and you need all the help you can get. If you know anyone with strong spiritual abilities, try to convince them to give you some advice and moral support before your search.
5~Consider where the Holy Grail might actually be, depending on what you think it is. Your spiritual guide might be able to help you brainstorm locations in which to quest.

6~Prepare to cross a threshold into a supernatural world as you set off for the supposed location of the Holy Grail. Like many other heroes and heroines of the past, you may face threats from supernatural forces, terrible weather conditions, gruesome monsters and other unnatural phenomena. Know that these are just routine parts of your quest.
